Dear IIOA Member,
At many previous meetings of the IIOA, members expressed concerns about the non-inclusion of our journal Economic Systems Research in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), maintained by ISI/Thomson Reuters. Inclusion of journals in this index is often considered a sign of journal quality by national or local authorities in charge of research assessments, with the consequence of many authors shunning SSCI-excluded journals.
We are very happy to announce that after a long gestation lag, ISI/Thomson Reuters has evaluated ESR's application for inclusion in SSCI positively! The successful application was drafted about two years ago by the previous editor Erik Dietzenbacher and managed by our publisher Taylor & Francis. ISI/Thomson Reuters decided to include Economic Systems Research as of the 2008-volume, so several recent ESR-articles can already be found in Web of Science (of which SSCI is a part). The inclusion of the 2008-volume implies that ESR will receive its first official Impact Factor in 2011. The impact factors for 2010 have been released by Thomson/Reuters: ESR's first impact factor is 1.442 and thus ranks 67 among slightly more than 300 journals in the subject category "Economics".
We hope that this positive decision will have a favourable influence on the number and quality of submissions we will receive. ESR not being included in SSCI is no longer an understandable excuse for not submitting to our journal, so we look forward to receiving your papers!
Best regards,
Manfred Lenzen and Bart Los
