Conference Excursions

Introduction

In time honoured tradition, the IIOA Conference always holds an excursion. This event is one of the Conference highlights and enables attendees to catch-up, reminisce, talk shop and make new friends in an informal atmosphere as well as enjoy and sample the local delights.

In the past, the IIOA Conference Excursions have varied in terms of the day of the Conference Week and the length (e.g. half day or full day). For the 2019 IIOA Conference in Glasgow, we are expecting 300+ attendees and there is much to see in Glasgow and beyond. Therefore, we are providing four options for attendees to choose from:

• Tour A - Edinburgh Castle Tour.
• Tour B - Stirling Castle Tour.
• Tour C - Loch Lomond and Whisky Distillery Tour.
• Tour D - Loch Lomond Cruise Tour (note, this tour starts at 2.30).

Each tour will contain around two hours total travel time on a coach and between one to two hours at the locations.

Please indicate through the Registration Process, your preference as early as possible (deadline is 1^st June 2019). The places will be booked on a first come first served basis.

Details of the four tours

Tour A - Edinburgh Castle Tour

Itinerary Outline:

• 1:30 pm - Pick-up from central Glasgow in 49 seater coach with driver and guide.
• Depart Glasgow and travel east to Edinburgh for arrival into the City at 2:20 pm.
• Time here to visit the Castle and discover its history, time permitting, explore Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
• Depart Edinburgh at 4:20 pm.
• Arrival back into Glasgow around 5.30.

Tour B - Stirling Castle Tour

Itinerary Outline:

• 1:30 pm - Pick-up from central Glasgow in 49 seater coach with driver and guide.
• Depart Glasgow and travel north to Stirling and arrival for 2:45 pm.
• Time to visit the Castle and discover its history, time permitting, explore Stirling's old town and its many cafes and restaurants.
• Depart Stirling at 4:45 pm.
• Arrival back into Glasgow around 5.30.

Tour C - Loch Lomond and Whisky Distillery Tour

There will be two groups. One group following the itinerary below and one group doing the tour in reverse but both groups will arrive back in Glasgow around 5.30.

Itinerary Outline:

• 1:30 pm - Pick-up from central Glasgow in 33 seater coach with driver and guide.
• Depart Glasgow and travel west to Auchentoshan Distillery for arrival at 2:15 pm.
• The Tour begins at 2:30 pm which includes tour of the distillery and a wee dram of whisky.
• Depart the distillery at 3:45 pm and travel to Balloch on the banks of Loch Lomond, arrival at 4:15 pm, have a short stop here to enjoy views of Loch Lomond and stretch your legs before returning to Glasgow at 4:35 pm.
• Arrival back into Glasgow around 5.30.

Tour D - Loch Lomond Cruise Tour (note, this tour starts at 2.30)

Itinerary Outline:

• 2:30 pm - Pick-up from central Glasgow in 49 seater coach with driver and guide.
• Depart Glasgow and travel north to Loch Lomond for arrival at approximately 3:30 pm.
• Time to take a cruise on the Loch (1 hour).
• 5:00 pm - Departing to return to Glasgow.
• 6:30 pm - Arrival back into Glasgow for drop-off.
