The Conference

First time in the United Kingdom

Welcome to the 2019 IIOA Conference webpage and supporting details.

The International Input-Output Association (IIOA) Conference has never been held in the United Kingdom (UK). Sanjiv Mahajan (Office for National Statistics, UK), and with excellent support from the Glasgow Convention Bureau, led the process to successfully secure Glasgow to host the IIOA Conference in the UK for the first time ever.

The Conference will be mainly held at the Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.

The first International Input-Output Conference was held in 1950 in the Netherlands and held at irregular intervals together with intermediate conferences. The IIOA Conferences from 1988 were held roughly two yearly, and since 2009, annually. The city of Glasgow offers a superb opportunity with a proven track record of hosting successful conferences with a wide-range of facilities at its disposal. This provides an excellent opportunity for the IIOA to hold its 27th Conference in Glasgow in 2019. Utilising such an opportunity will imply:

  • the IIOA Conference will be back in Europe (the previous one was held in Lisbon, Portugal in 2014);
  • will increase the delegate attendance from both the UK and Europe as well as the rest of the world; and
  • be used as a springboard to provide an Input-Output related subject matter legacy in the UK and beyond.

The Next Stop Glasgow, we will be looking forward to seeing you in June and July 2019.

Sanjiv Mahajan
Chair of Local Organising Committee
Vice President of the International Input-Output Association
