About Langkawi Island

Langkawi has achieved what many destinations haven't, balancing a rapid tourism boom with preserving over 65% of its natural habitat. That natural landscape is part of the main island's draw, earning Langkawi recognition as Southeast Asia's first UNESCO Global Geopark in 2007.

Langkawi is also a duty-free island which means you do not have to pay customs duty or sales tax on items such as chocolate, cigarettes/cigars, perfumes and liquor. Although it is duty-free, the regulation of these purchases is limited up to 5 bottles of liquor, 3 cases of beer and 3 cartons of cigarettes purchased at duty-free stores in Langkawi. A Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Langkawi flight landing in Langkawi International Airport only takes an hour with frequent daily trips available.

Getting To Langkawi

Surrounded by crystal clear ocean will eventually sparks an intense sensation of happiness. The island is located 30 KM from the mainland Kedah and requires tourist to travel sea using its ferry service provider. Whereas the distance between the island and the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is about 400KM apart, and travelling through would eventually take up about 45 minutes of journey.

1. Kilim Karst Geoforest Park

One of 3 main sections of Langkawi's UNESCO-listed geopark, Kilim Geoforest Park is home to some of the island's most exquisite and geologically significant landscapes, with Setul rock formations dating back 490 million years. At 100 sq kms, Kilim Geoforest Park is best explored by boat. Local tour operators ferry tourists to a selection of 14 attractions, covering caves, islands, beaches, eagle spotting, and a floating fish farm.

Chenang Beach

Langkawi’s most tourist-friendly beach. This 2km stretch of soft white sand is lined with coconut trees, beach umbrellas, jet ski vendors, and beach bars. By day, sunbathers, swimmers, and watersport enthusiasts dominate the sparkling shoreline. As the sun softly sets, a series of beach bars become the center of attention as beanbags and cocktail menus are brought onto the sand.

4. Skytrex Adventure Langkawi

Explore Langkawi’s ancient rainforest from a different perspective… amongst the treetops. Skytrex Adventure has built over 30 ‘games’ in the jungle, from rope ladders and plank bridges to flying foxes and extreme swings, at the foot of Gunung Mat Cingang.

5. Mahsuri Memorial Mausoleum

A historical and cultural complex that portrays local village life during the time of Mahsuri who, according to one of Langkawi's most revered legends, was a wrongly-accused woman who cursed the island with her dying breath. Set against thriving rice fields, the complex includes cultural music and dance performances, live plays, and a museum dedicated to Mahusuri. The heroine's tomb, a reconstruction of her home, and the well said to be the source of her famed beauty are also within the complex.

6. Pulau Payar Marine Park Langkawi

Mind-blowing scenic spot one of the several lovely beaches, or snorkel or even scuba dive amongst spectacular coral and marine life. Located 30km from the main island of Langkawi and its takes about an hour to reach by speed boat from the Kuah Jetty (i.e. the ferry terminal at Kuah town of Langkawi)

7. Underwater World Langkawi

60,000 square feet area houses for more than 4,000 different species of marine life that includes over 500 species of fish and many other underwater life. It also showcases many different type of birds, animals and other inhabitants that are found in tropical rainforests, temperate and even sub-Antarctic regions.

8. Seven Wells Waterfall

Situated at about 20 minutes’ walk away from the Langkawi Sky Bridge, the Seven Wells Waterfall flows down from the second highest mountain in Langkawi – Mount Mat Cincang. The total vertical falls is 91-meters long.

9. Ayer Hangat Village

Modern cultural complex located 14km from Kuah town. It is a natural salt water hot spring which is rare and can be found only in three other countries in the world. The main attraction here is the three-tiered hot water spring wells. In addition to that, it includes Jacuzzis where natural hot saltwater is pumped in, small ponds and fountains in landscape gardens, cultural shows, etc.

10. Telaga Harbour Park & Marina

Wonderful and picturesque harbour complex located in Panti Kok area of western coastline Langkawi. Covers of 27 acres of basin area and includes a full serviced marina for yachts and sailboats including shopping complex with a boardwalk along the harbour that also has several upscale restaurants and bars. It is also a place for sunset views across the harbour.
