Conference Excursion


Introduction

It is an honoured tradition in any IIOA conference to hold an excursion. The conference excursion is one of the conference highlights and enables participants to catch-up, reminisce, talk shop and make new networking with new friends in an informal atmosphere while enjoying the local attractions.

The following excursion packages and itinerary outlines serve as a guide for participants to choose during the Conference Registration Process. Notice that itinerary may slightly change subject to the final arrangement between LOC and tour providers.

There are three (3) different excursion packages to be chosen by the participants. The registration is made based on first come first served basis. Please indicate your preference during the Conference Registration Process .

TOUR A: INDULGE WITH THE NATURE

Ayer Hangat Vilage
We welcome you to Ayer Hangat Village, the only salt water hotspring in Malaysia. The Ayer Hangat Hot spring is one of the 4 saltwater hot springs in the world. We invite you to soak yourself in aour Salt Hot Spring amidst traditional Malay Village Setting with anatural backdrop of the greens of sedges field, while you can enjoythe only saltwater spring in Malaysia. Take advantage of the manybenefits of this natural remedy that will leave you relaxed andamazed!

Langkawi Mangrove Kilim UNESCO Geopark
The Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark was awarded its status in 2007 and is known as the first Global Geopark in Southeast Asia. Blessed with an abundance of natural wonders such as ancient rock formations, dramatic mountain peaks, and a wealth of exotic flora and fauna, the park offers sights you shouldn't miss when in Langkawi. Hop on a boat and discover secluded coves and beaches with us!

MARDI Agro Technology Park
The MARDI Agro Technology Park, Langkawi is one of the famous tourism products in Langkawi. MARDI provide exposure on the use of modern technology in Malaysia’s agricultural industry. Here, you will be taken on a ride around the park using the specially provided transportation. If you are a herb-plant enthusiast, this will be the right place for you. After the long and fun sightseeing ride, you can stop by for a feast of delightful local fruits buffet.Do not miss the opportunity to visit MARDI Langkawi for a wonderful Agro-experience in Langkawi!

TOUR B: MADE AND MOULDED BY HISTORY

Mahsuri Mousoleum
Walking around in Makam Mahsuri, you will be amazed by the artistic and classical Malay architecture. There are several traditional Malay wooden houses in the mausoleum where some serves as a mini museum, some unoccupied. Further inside, you will be able to see a well – the Mahsuri Well and you can even buy the processed well water at merely RM 1.50 per bottle. Besides, portraits of Mahsuri’s descendants of the seventh generation are also being displayed in a board, near to the well. Thus, visitors can learn more about her family here. There are different versions of stories and colorful illustrations in both Malays and English languages, telling how Mahsuri was being accused of adultery and executed.

Dataran Lang
Standing at 12 meters high (39.3 feet), this commanding statue is inspired by Langkawi's namesake sea eagle. Poised to take flight, the statue is the focal point of the waterfront "Dataran Lang", a star-shaped plaza located on Kuah Bay. It's one of the first sights to greet visitors arriving via ferry or cruise ship. "Dataran Lang" is popular for photos with the larger-than-life Brahminy kite, or to simply watch boats sail in and out of the bay. Opposite the square, across a small footbridge, is the Jetty Point Complex, Langkawi's main ferry terminal and a mid-sized mall with duty-free shopping opportunities and fast food chains.

Oriental Village
Located at the foothills of Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park on the west coast of Langkawi, Oriental Village is the home of Langkawi SkyCab and Langkawi SkyBridge, the renowned attractions in Malay- sia. TOUR C: EXQUISITELY TRADITIONAL

Atma Alam Batik Village
The birthplace of Langkawi's art of hand made Batik founded by Aza Osman (oil painter) and Roshadah Yusof (batik artist) is a treasure trove of local art and culture. Here all elements are pooled together to showcase the true products of local talents in the world of Batik. The half acre floor consisting of Batik Workshop, Batik Showroom, Art Gallery and handicraft section offers high quality product affordable even to the domestic visitors. Come and experience the authenticity. The Atma Alam Batik Art Village is recognized by the Malaysian Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.

Langkawi Crafts Complex
The architecture of the complex is adorned with Islamic motifs elements emphasizing on decorative geometric designs on the walls detailing that blend well with a Malay architectural design accessories. The Langkawi Craft Complex houses a collection of various local craft products including the iconic Langkawi crafts products for sale. At the same time, visitors have the opportunity to browse through the Heritage Museum and the Customs & Wedding Museum within the Langkawi Craft Complex to appreciate the heritage craft products and the local wedding customs on display. Apart from engaging in interactive craft activities, visitors have the opportunity to record beautiful moments at the "Dataran Tangga Seribu" (A Thousand Staircase Square), one of the tourism icons at the Langkawi Craft Complex

Laman Padi
Laman means field and Padi stands for rice in Malay. So Laman Padi essentially means rice field. This vast open complex comprises of number of rice fields, herb gardens and galleries or museums where the process and evolution of rice cultivation & harvesting in Langkawi is exhibited. So if you like agro tourism, lush greenery and want to spend some time with the nature and at the same time understand about how rice is cultivated which is the primary product of export for Malaysia, then this will be a great place to visit and spend couple of hours or even more.

Suggested itinerary

Tour A: Indulge with the Nature

Group A1 (maximum 40 people)
  • 12.00 pm - Pick-up at Bayview Hotel.
  • Travel to Ayer Hangat Village for first stop at 12.30 pm. Time here to visit the village and discover the Salt water hot spring, Malay Wellness and Spa also Malay culture and art.
  • 1.30 pm – Depart from Ayer Hangat village to Mangrove Kilim UNESCO Geopark. Discover the tour by speed boat to attractions like Fish Farm, Bat Cave, Eagle Feeding and Kilim Karst etc. Estimated time 2.15 pm until 4.15 pm
  • 5.00 pm - Depart to "Dataran Lang". A free session to explore the place. Take many good pictures as many as you can!
  • 6.00 pm - Depart to Bayview Hotel and box dinner will be provided.
Group A2 (maximum 40 people)
  • 12.00 pm - Pick-up at Bayview Hotel.
  • 12.15 pm - Arrive at "Dataran Lang". A free session to explore the place. Take many good pictures as many as you can! Leaving at 1.30 pm.
  • 2.00 pm - Arrive at Ayer Hangat Village. Time here to visit the village and discover the Salt water hot spring, Malay Wellness and Spa also culture and art.
  • 4.00 pm - Arrive at Mangrove Kilim UNESCO Geopark. Discover the tour by speed boat to attractions like Fish Farm, Bat Cave, Eagle Feeding and Kilim Karst etc.
  • 6.00 pm - Depart to Bayview Hotel and box dinner will be provided.

Tour B: Made and moulded by history

Group B1 (maximum 40 people)
  • 12.00 pm - Pick-up at Bayview Hotel.
  • Depart Kuah and travel to Mahsuri Mausoleum. Discover the legendary beautiful maiden ever lived in the island. Explore Mahsuri Exhibit and the culture performances. Estimated time 12.30 pm until 2.00 pm.
  • 2.30 pm - Arrive at MARDI Agro-Technology Park. Discover the place with a Farm Tour and have an experience to savour various of fresh-pick local fruits. Spend the time until 4.00 pm and don't forget to take picture as many as you can especially with the iconic "Mr.Jackfruit".
  • 4.30 pm - Arrive at "Laman Padi". Discover the authentic experience of paddy galleries or museums where the process and evolution of rice cultivation & harvesting in Langkawi is exhibited.
  • 6.00 pm - Depart to Bayview Hotel and box dinner will be provided.
Group B2 (maximum 40 people)
  • 12.00 pm - Pick-up at Bayview Hotel.
  • Depart Kuah to "Laman Padi". Discover the authentic experience of paddy galleries or museums where the process and evolution of rice cultivation & harvesting in Langkawi is exhibited. Estimated time 12.30 pm until 2.00 pm.
  • 2.30 pm - Arrive at Mahsuri Mausoleum. Discover the legendary story of the beautiful maiden ever lived in the island. Explore Mahsuri Exhibit and the culture performances. Leaving at 4.00 pm

Estimated time is from 2.30 until 2.00 pm
  • 2.30 pm - Arrive at Oriental Village. Have a look around for the best-value-for-money souvenirs, casual clothing, to mouth-watering food of more than 95 outlets, stores and kiosks. Depart at 4.00 pm.

Group C2 (maximum 40 people)
  • 12.00 pm - Pick-up at Bayview Hotel.
  • Depart Kuah and travel to Atma Alam Batik Art Village. Experience Batik Painting and have a look around the complex, Garpy Fish Foot Message and or you may grab some local batik souvenir! Estimated time is from 12.30 until 2.00 pm
